The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has announced that Greenville
City School’s new 194,086 SF school building project has achieved LEED Gold certification. LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, sets standards for building construction and operation that will have the least negative impact on the environment and the greatest benefit to the
community and the building occupants. LEED certified buildings save money for not only the school district, but also the taxpayers through the numerous environmental and energy efficiencies incorporated into the building design and construction.
Shook Touchstone, a long-time construction management joint venture between Lima-based, Touchstone CPM and Dayton-based Shook Construction, was the construction manager for the $46 million new building project. Shook Touchstone has performed over $1 billion in PK-12 construction work since its inception in 2007. Partnering with Shook Touchstone for the Greenville City Schools
building project was Minster based architectural firm, Garmann/Miller Architects.
“We are proud to have been the construction manager for Greenville’s new school building project and achieving LEED Gold certification,” said Nate Neuenschwander, President of Touchstone CPM, “Achieving this certification is a testament to our industry’s commitment to environmental stewardship and social
LEED certification is determined by a point system, with points given for each environmentally sound construction or operational process. Achieving LEED certification requires the project design team and construction manager work to maximize the number of beneficial environmental and energy efficiency
techniques incorporated into the design and construction of the project.
