Safety Awards
AGC of Ohio has several awards programs that honor contractors and individuals in Ohio’s construction industry. AGC of Ohio’s national counterpart, AGC of America, sponsors several national awards programs that can be found here.
Construction Safety Excellence Awards
AGC’s CSEA program is the industry’s elite safety excellence awards program. CSEA recognize those construction companies that excel at safety and health performance, examining each candidate’s commitment to safety and occupational health management and risk control. The CSEA selection process is comprehensive, closely examining each candidate’s commitment to safety and occupational health management and risk control. It includes: the review of a company’s commitment to management, active employee participation, safety training, work site hazard identification and control, and safety program innovation.
AGC of Ohio members can apply for both the Ohio and National (AGC of America) awards by filling out one application that is made available to members and posted online late summer or early fall. The entry deadline is usually early or mid-December. Tips for preparing your CSEA entry

National AGC Safety Awards (NASA)
NASA Participant Form 2018
NASA Instructions 2018
The NASA program has been an ongoing effort since 1991 to offer AGC members an opportunity to evaluate their safety record.
The entry process is very simple. It only takes a few minutes to fill out the NASA tabulation form with a completed OSHA 300 log. AGC of Ohio collects members’ tabulation forms and submits them to AGC of America. All participating contractors receive a confidential printout to compare their company’s safety statistics with similar size and type AGC contractor members both locally and nationally. This information can be used to assist in determining if additional accident prevention and loss-control measures are necessary. Participating contractors with incidence rates of zero or 25 percent below the division average who have participated for three consecutive years receive a Certificate of Commendation for Safety Excellence. Who Can Participate
AGC contractor members with direct-hire, job-site craft labor are eligible to compete in one or more of the following categories: Building; Federal & Heavy; Highway; Municipal/Utilities; and Associate/Specialty. AGC contractor members must have participated in the National AGC Safety Awards Program for three consecutive years in order to be eligible for an award. How the Program Works
This program is similar to the Bureau of Labor Statistics and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (BLS-OSHA) recordkeeping systems. The data is tabulated to produce total lost workday case incident rates (excluding restricted workdays). The formula for computing “incident” is structured to multiply the incident cases involving days away from work (N) times 200,000. The resulting product is then divided by the work hours of exposure (WH). The formula is the days away case incident rate.
The formula follows: Days Away, Case Incident Rate =
N x 200,000WH
(WH) is the number of work hours for the calendar year 2013 (including office hours). N is the number of days-away-from-work cases, which represents the number of cases resulting in days away from work, but does not include job transfer or restricted activity. N is obtained from the total amount of entries recorded in the Number of Cases section (H) of the OSHA form 300A.
The completed OSHA 300A Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses provides the information needed for contractor participation in the NASA Program. Days-away- from-work cases is found in section (H), fatality information can be obtained from the number of cases section (G) and the work hours can be found in the establishment information section. Award Distribution
AGC of Ohio will provide members with their awards either at the annual Safety Luncheon or during a safety committee meeting. How to Enter
AGC of Ohio must submit an entry on behalf of the member. The NASA Participant Form is made available to members at the beginning of each year. The entry deadline is usually late January or early February.
