AGC OF OHIO LEADERSHIP INSTALLED, CONVENTION HIGHLIGHTS

 

Thank you to Josh and Amy Corna (Continental Building) for hosting the AGC of Ohio Convention in early March at Casa de Campo in the Dominican Republic!  During the event, the 2024 AGC of Ohio Leadership team was elected and installed:

  • President: Phil Neumann, Universal Contracting Corp. (Cincinnati)
  • 1st Vice President: Art Lindrose, Bolton Pratt Co. (Cleveland)
  • 2nd Vice President: Brian Geffe, Mosser Construction (Fremont)
  • Treasurer: Mark Muter, Settle Muter Electric (Columbus)
  • Secretary: Dan Edwards, AGC of Ohio (Columbus)
  • Immediate Past President: Josh Corna, Continental Building Co. (Columbus)

Convention-goers participated in business sessions that covered a variety of relevant subjects impacting contractors. We appreciate the time and effort the presenters put into their programs!  They were:

During the event, Phil Neuman (Universal Contracting) announced the date and location of year’s convention: March 3-9, 2025 at the La Playa Resort in Naples, Florida. Registration materials will be sent in the coming months.

AGC OF OHIO MEMBERS HONORED WITH BUILD AMERICA AND CONSTRUCTION SAFETY EXCELLENCE AWARDS

Last week during the AGC of America Convention in San Diego, Messer Construction (Cincinnati) received a Build America Award in the Building New or Renovation Over $126 Million category for its UC Health New Emergency Department and Surgical Infill project.

Additionally, three AGC of Ohio members were recognized nationally for their safety efforts in the Construction Safety Excellence Awards program. KWest Group (Perrysburg) placed first in the Heavy Division, 250,000-1 million work hours. In the Building Division, Shook Construction (Moraine) and Messer Construction (Cincinnati) received 2nd place honors in their respective work-hour categories.

AGC OF OHIO EDUCATION FOUNDATION GOLF OUTING – MAY 13, REGISTER HERE.

Sign up today for AGC’s Education Foundation Golf Outing benefiting the scholarship program. The outing will be held on Monday, May 13 at Northstar Golf Club in Sunbury. It begins with registration at 9:00 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. shotgun start. Lunch will be provided on the course.  Hole and other sponsorship opportunities are available. NEW OHIO BUILDING, MECHANICAL, PLUMBING & EXISTING BUILDING CODES TOOK EFFECT MARCH 1

Last August, the Ohio Board of Building Standards adopted updates to Ohio’s building codes. The new Ohio Building (OBC), Mechanical (OMC), Plumbing (OPC) and Existing Building (OEBC) Codes took effect March 1. Electronic versions of the 2024 OBC, OMC, OPC & OEBC are available on ICC’s Ohio eCode Bookshelf: Ohio Building Codes - ICC Digital Codes (iccsafe.org).

AGC OF AMERICA CEO RETIRES MARCH 31; LONG-TIME AGC STAFF SHOAF TO TAKE LEADERSHIP POSITION

After 37 years at AGC of America, CEO Steve Sandherr will retire at the end of this month. Jeff Shoaf, who joined AGC in 1994 and has been AGC of America’s COO since 2017, will take over the position. . AGC of Ohio was fortunate to have Steve speak at its convention earlier this month, his last chapter engagement before his retirement. We wish Steve well in his future endeavors!

ECONOMIC NEWS:  Construction Employment Rises In 39 States Between February 2023 And Last Month, While 31 States Add Employees From January To February
